Canadian Backyard Adventures

Spanning over 9.9 million square kilometres, from the Atlantic Ocean in the east to the Pacific Ocean in the west, and northward into the Arctic Ocean,  it’s not surprising Canada has some of the most beautiful locales in the world. Lets put that number in perspective though if I were to explore 100 square kilometres a day, it would still take me over 271 years to explore all of Canada.

Whether it be in the West in the Rocky Mountains, The vast plains of Saskatchewan, the Canadian Shield covered by vast Boreal Forests, Quebec’s Laurentian Mountains, to the maritime provinces that offer a view of the Atlantic Ocean unlike anywhere else. Canada is one of the most ecologically diverse country in the world.

Canada has it all, you want to go climbing? No problem, Skiing? We’ve got that covered, Camping? The best place in the world for that, and the list doesn’t stop there. So much of Canada’s great beauty is untouched, allowing you take in the splendour without the normal distractions of a tourist trap.

Strap on a pack and go for a hike, make it a weekend, it is great exercise with the bonuses of being able to watch wildlife in their own habitat, panoramic scenic look outs, and at night it is roasting marshmallows over a small fire and talking of the day’s adventure.

Too often we take for granted what Canada has to offer, and that is the one of the main reasons why I have been building this site. The site is in its early stages but progress with be steady and coming back for a regular visit you will find new content.

For the moment, I am just starting to be able to travel again, I had a very serious illness mid Summer 2011 and I am still recuperating.  As well I seem to be healing at a much slower rate than what was originally thought so I am not sure if I will be able to get out this Summer as much as I wish I could, it’s likely I may not have the strength back until early fall, it has been pushed back many times. So I will be restricted to Car Camping for the season.

A quick note, www.CanadianBackyard.com is a non-profit site, no advertising is sold here, I do promote some sites because they are businesses I have worked with in the past and have had great success with them. I promote them at no charge, and am simply motivated to give you the reader a link to a business I consider to be above and beyond normal, for the best product and customer service. I do a lot of reviews and I find I can much more easily do an honest and unbiased review if I don’t have to worry about insulting a client who is advertising on my site if the review is unfavourable. So Canadian Backyard Adventures is and will always be a non-profit site, actually is costs me money it doesn’t make me money, however I enjoy the hobby so it is worth the cost.

In my reviews you may not notice me doing “typical” tests that many reviews do, as an example is when I review a knife I don’t cut bricks in half or hit them with hammers. I honestly think it has been done to death and those types of tests are really unrelated to the purpose of the knife. A sharp blade will make wood shavings, and batoning a log is striking the knife in the most solid fashion you can on a knife and even cheap poor quality knives will pass that test. So for my reviews I usually do them in two parts, the first part is an introduction to the knife, lot’s of pictures and some basic first impressions. It is meant to make you familiar with the knife, in the second part of the review is done a couple weeks after the first, it gives me time to use the knife to get used to it in my hand and just give me a more educated opinion on the knife than just opening the box and writing a review off first impressions only. On several occasions I have noted things that would worry me on first impression but after a couple weeks of use I find my worries were unwarranted.

I have several pieces of gear that I am doing long term reports on, to see how they stand up to the test of time, brand new equipment always seems to work great but how well does it work after a full season of use? Those are questions I will try to answer with my long term reviews.
